  FAQs

We love hearing from you. But before calling, please read Region Pools' Frequently Asked Questions. You may save time and money!

What chlorine and PH levels should I maintain in my pool?
Chlorine should read between 1 and 3; PH should read between 7.2 and 7.6. Both are important, PH is more critical than chlorine. Test every other day.

What is the proper water level?
2/3 up the skimmer.

How long should I wait to swim after adding chemicals?
If PH+ or PH- was added, you can swim right away. If chlorine was added, wait at least four hours.

What chemicals should I use if my water is green?
Green water has two causes. One is metal from your garden hose or well water; the other is algae. Metal staining should be treated with Metal Out or a high quality algaecide. Region Pools sells both products.

Do you carry Baquisil chemicals?
No.

When should I drain my pool?
Never drain your pool! It can collapse or the liner could shrink or tear. If you’ve drained your pool for any reason, you need to replace the liner.

How long will my pool liner last?
If you maintain the proper chemical levels (PH and Chlorine) and proper water levels, your liner will last up to 10 years. With poor maintenance a liner might last only 5 years.

What should I use to clean the scum from the top of the water line?
We recommend Sea-Klear vinyl cleaner (available from Region Pools).

I have a well and don't want to burn the pump or dry up the well when I fill my pool. What are my options?
You can have the water hauled in (if you live near Crown Point, call Niemeyer Farm Service). Or you may turn the water on for a couple of hours at a time. If using well water, add Metal Out (available from Region Pools) into the water immediately to counteract the metals in the water.

Does the sand in my filter need to be changed every year?
Sand should last for two or three years. The pressure gauge should read between 12 and 15 after backwashing. When the pressure is more than 15 after backwashing, it’s time to change the sand. Region Pools can perform this maintenance for a $60 service call fee plus $20 for every 15 minutes (most calls take about 30 minutes). Sand is $6 per bag; service call includes hauling away your old sand.

Why is the pressure back to my pool low?
Check your pool filter. A sand filter requires backwashing. A cartridge filter requires a through cleaning. A DE filter requires pumping the filter to clean out the mineral deposits.

When does my pool cartridge or sand need to be cleaned or backwashed?
When the pressure reading is 6 to 8 lbs above start-up pressure.

How long should the pool filter run each day?
The pool filter should run between 8 and 12 hours every day.

How long will a pool heater take to warm up the pool?
A heater can raise the water temperature approximately 8 degrees every 12 hours. Using a solar blanket on the pool at night will help keep the pool warm. Contact us today for solar cover pricing.

How much will a pool heater cost to run?
Heating an average size pool costs approximately $300 - $400 a season.

If it's raining on the day Region Pools is scheduled to work on my pool, what happens?
We'll call you by 7 a.m. to cancel; if you don't get a call then we plan to work that day.
