Leak Detector

Region Pools’ state-of-the-art equipment finds leaks in vinyl liners within minutes, without draining your pool or getting into the water. Before calling us, perform this simple test to find out if it’s a leak or normal evaporation (pools may lose up to an inch of water a day due to evaporation).

Bucket test procedure:

  • Take a bucket (any kind) fill it ¾ full of water and mark the water line.
  • Mark the water level in the pool. The best place is by the faceplate of the skimmer.
  • Leave the bucket by the pool for 24 hours (out of reach of animals or spilling).
  • Look at both the bucket and pool in 24 hours and see if the water levels are the same

If both the bucket and pool have the same amount of loss or no loss, then there is no leak. If the pool level is lower than the marked level and the bucket stayed the same then you have a leak in your pool. Measure that level and that will tell you how much water you are losing in 24 hours.

If it rains during the test period, both levels should raise equally. If there is evaporation, both levels should go down equally.

After the bucket test, call us with the results.

Pool must be clear (see the bottom) and at least 65 degrees to perform test.
